Putting Others First

Concentrating on only ourselves builds a wall between us and others. Those who keep their thinking about their needs, their wants, their ideas, their moods, their likes and dislikes are more or less lonely and insecure people.

They are the ones who don’t believe in sacrificing or letting go of personal needs and wants over others happiness….have you seen the satisfaction, joy and the smile that lits up the faces of our family, friends or relatives when we give up on our opinions or the way we usually think, feel or act sometimes (if not always)?
This is what I call Putting others First,a very effective idea to deepen the bond of relationships with our loved ones..try it.
The next time you are tempted to watch your favourite movie on tv, or go out for dinner at your favourite restaurant, impose your opinions, say no to your loved one for shopping just because you are not in mood and tired..stop for a minute and reverse all your actions..!

Let your favourite movie be sacrificed for your wife”s tv program, go out for dinner but not the venue of your choice but for a change to a place you have been saying no to your family or friends, say you want to go shopping with your wife or girlfriend who always say that you never give them the required quality time and yes, most importantly cheer up and get your mood fine tuned for the things others want….its pure magic!!

The expectant result….smiling faces, joyous hearts, improved relationships, more love and respect and a sense of contentment within.. Its so easy in this world to live only for ourself but the real joy of living and the most difficult thing in life is to live for others and seek joy and happiness in their smiles...give them the feeling that they are an indispensable part of your life and they are really loved!!!

Its like throwing a small pebble in the ocean-the ripple affects the entire ocean. Such is the value of a good deed, however small like putting others first :)

Lets be the first ones to spread love and beautiful smiles and brighten up someone's life!!

Dearest Krishna ...how true ..we need to do give up our wants and desires for just the sheer love for God and our fellow beings.. although its true that we have to first give up ego or ahankaar to give up our needs and think about others... but its a very fine line.. we have to be careful.. as we tend to fall in the trap of 'sukshma ahankaar' or a subtle ego ...thinking in the process that 'see how good we are ...' or 'I am the one who always sacrifices therefore I am better than others'... and this is the most difficult fight with the nafs .. its much easier to give up a physical want then to give up a emotional desire to feel great about it ....God bless us all and help us with this constant struggle with our nafs ...

My Dear Dipti,
What wonderful insight! And yes somewhere lurking behind our subconscious is the Sukshma Ahankaar.
Eliminating this difficult fight with the nafs(false ego) is what brings us closer to spirituality and reveals our original Self- which is Loving, selfless and whole.
Thanks for your lovely thoughts dipti:)
Ameen to your prayer:)

Hi Krishna,

That's a great truth!
Thanks for sharing this gem of wisdom.

This reminded me of this scripture text: "And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
(Mark 10:44-45)

Many Blessings to you, Krishna.
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.
